"Our conversation is being broadcast."īreetai fixed him with his one eye. "Be quiet, you fool," ordered Khyron finally. Khyron tried to silence him, but it was too late. "The sheer audacity-" Exedore started to say.Ī square jawed battle-scarred warrior had appeared by Khyron's side in the projecbeam field, sharing some sort of joke with him. "Good to see you again, Commander Breetai." He finished off with a laugh. "Commander of the Seventh Mechanized Space Division reporting as ordered." His lowered salute turned into a mock wave. His face was a curious mixture of boyish innocence and brooding anger, Prince Valiant's devilish shadow with a fire in his eyes that was not quite Zentraedi. Khyron, long steel-blue hair falling over the collar of a uniform of his own design, saluted. The Backstabber's face suddenly appeared on the forward screen. He thinks it'll be the perfect spot for a trap for the SDF-1, and says he's summoned the Seventh Mechanized Division of the Botoru Battalion to snap the trap shut.Įxedore's reaction can basically be summed up as "Oh shit, you didn't." Breetai gets an idea, and orders that the base's computer be ordered to start transmitting a memory dump on a hailing frequency. Exedore reports that the base's reflex furnaces are still active, and they've tapped into the base computers. Zentradi scanners have picked up an abandoned micronian base on Mars. Moving on, Breetai calls up an image of the next planet along the fortress' path of travel, Mars, a desolate world that reminds him of "Fantoma, and the mining worlds he had worked and patrolled long ago." This is the first mention of Fantoma, the giant planet that the Robotech Masters' homeworld of Tirol is actually a moon of, which is an element from Macek's failed Sentinels project. Pirahna used a bunch of Japanese SDF Macross publications (pre-Robotech) to basically say "Your trademark claim to Macross is invalid, it belongs to Big West, not you." It was eventually settled out of court, so no one except Piranha and HG knows the outcome.Do we really need a description of how the destroyer exploded at the end of the last chapter? Sheesh. It was a lot to read through, but Piranha basically argued that no, HG didn't have right to claim any of the designs, instead it would have to be Big West (if Big West wanted to). Just before the release of Shadow Chronicles, HG did get the rights to use Macross characters in an animated sequel, but this was when Shadow Chronicles was already completed.Īlso around the time of this claim, HG sent cease & desists to Piranha games (who were working on a Battletech game) about using mecha similar to those of the 41 original Macross designs. This is why Rick Hunter looked so different in Shadow Chronicles, even the comic prequel avoided using Macross character likenesses. Just before they announced work on what would be come Shadow Chronicles in 2002 (like 6-7 days prior), they worked out a new deal to be able to make a sequel to Southern Cross and Mospeada only. In the late 90's / early 2000's, HG didn't have the rights to make any sequels to any of the three anime (which is probably whey they went with Robotech 3000). There were a lot of interesting points made in that claim: A few years back there were a bunch of suits about Robotech, one of them being Tatsunoko themselves believing they weren't being paid fair royalties and expressed wanting to leave the agreement.
